Dan and Tom Searle, twin brothers who live in Brighton, East Sussex, founded the British metalcore group Architects in 2004. The current lineup of the group comprises Adam Christianson and Josh Middleton on guitars, Sam Carter on vocals, Alex Dean on bass, and Dan Searle on drums. Since 2013, they have been under contract with Epitaph Records.
Their first three albums had a rough, disorganized, and complex rhythmic sound that was heavily influenced by bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan. With The Here and Now, released in 2011, Architects took a more melodic post-hardcore turn, alienating some of their fanbases. With the release of their sixth album Lost Forever / Lost Together in 2014, the band attained enduring popularity and critical acclaim. The band then returned to their original style with the release of Daybreaker the following year, striking a balance between melody and technical harshness while introducing more politicized lyrics.
The band debuted “Doomsday,” the final song he was working on before passing away, as a single in September 2017 and introduced Middleton as their new lead guitarist. Their first album without Tom Searle, Holy Hell, was released in November 2018 and contains the song. For Those That Desire to Exist, their ninth studio album was released on February 26, 2021, and it quickly rose to the top of the UK Albums Chart, marking their first chart-topper.
