Azeez Adeshina Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, is a British-Nigerian singer and songwriter. He was born on May 10, 1991. He is well-known for being the leader of his contentious “Marlians” fandom. Naira Marley dreamed of becoming a voice-over artist and MC as a child. He started singing in 2014 after realizing his love for music and receiving encouragement from close friends to pursue a career in music. Before releasing his debut EP Gotta Dance in 2015, he made the Max Twigz-assisted song “Marry Juana” available.
His track “Issa Goal,” featuring Olamide and Lil Kesh, was released in December 2017 and used as the Super Eagles’ 2018 FIFA World Cup anthem. On June 16, 2018, the official remix of “Issa Goal” was unveiled; it includes vocals from Olamide, Lil Kesh, Falz, Simi, and Slimcase.
In addition to singing in English, Pidgin, and Yoruba, Naira Marley also performs hip-hop and Afrobeats. His dreadlocks and stage name are both homages to Jamaican artist Bob Marley, whom he really admires.
