Canadian rock group Nickelback was established in 1995 in Hanna, Alberta. Chad Kroeger on guitar and lead vocals, Ryan Peake on guitar, piano, and supporting vocals, Mike Kroeger on bass, and Daniel Adair on drums make up the band. Between 1995 and 2005, it had a number of drummer replacements before settling on Adair as its current drummer.
One of the most popular Canadian rock bands in terms of sales, Nickelback has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide. With “How You Remind Me” as the best-selling rock single and the fourth-best song overall, Billboard named them as the most successful rock group and the seventh-most successful artist of that decade in 2009. The group has nonetheless developed a bad name as “the most despised band in the world,” according to Stereogum’s Tom Breihan, who also calls Nickelback “the most universally loathed rock band of the 21st century.”
Post-grunge, hard rock, pop rock, alternative rock, heavy metal, alternative metal, and nu metal have all been used to characterize Nickelback. Their previous music has been categorized as grunge.
